Friday and Sunday

Join us this Sunday, December 8, when we welcome Dwayne Zimmerman as our guest musician.

Dwayne Zimmerman is the fourth and youngest child of the late Leonard and Wanda Zimmerman. This native of Columbus, Ohio, was baptized at the Antioch Baptist Church and has been a member of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church since 1989. Bro. Zimmerman has a Bachelor of Music Education (Magna Cum Laude) from Kentucky State University and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Dayton. He is employed at Columbus City Schools as a Music Education Specialist, teaching every grade level from Pre-K to 12.

Dwayne began taking piano lessons at seven under the teaching of the late Lenora Carnes. At the age of 10, he started playing for the Sunday School at Antioch Baptist Church. He began studying piano under the tutelage of the late Marguerite Coleman when he was 11. By the time Dwayne was 13, he would be given opportunities to play for Antioch's Wednesday Prayer Service. Dwayne started playing and directing Antioch's choirs when he was 15 years old. It was then that he started playing the organ. Bro. Zimmerman was 18 when Antioch elevated him to Director of Music, a position he held for 7 years.

Upon joining New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Bro. Zimmerman became the Assistant to the Minister of Music, Beverly Elder. Dwayne served in that position for the next 10 years. Since 1999, Bro. Zimmerman has been known city-wide as a reliable substitute musician for churches.

Bro. Dwayne Zimmerman has worked with the Columbus Baptist Pastors Conference's Simultaneous Revival Choir, the Lott Carey National Baptist Missionary Convention Choir, the Student Director of the Kentucky State University's Concert Choir, and the Director of The Columbus Boychoir.
